Library Laptop Checkout Policies and Procedures
Eligibility
Laptop computers may be checked
out from the circulation desk of Chesnutt Library for use
exclusively within the Library. Only
current FSU students, faculty, and staff are eligible to check out
laptop computers. Laptops must be used directly by eligible
patrons. An eligible patron is only allowed to checkout one laptop
at a time. A valid FSU ID and a second form of photo identification
(i.e. Driver's License, Military ID Card) must be presented upon checkout. The second form of identification
will be held at the Circulation Desk until the laptop is returned
and checked over by library staff. A laptop
checkout agreement must be signed with each laptop checkout. If you have any blocks
or fines on your
library record you will NOT be able to borrow a laptop until
the restrictions are cleared.
Loan Periods and Availability
Laptops circulate for three (3) hour
increments, and may be renewed, if availability allows. Laptops are
available on a first come, first served basis, and may not be
reserved. Each user is
responsible for making sure that he or she does not exceed the three
hour checkout period. Fines will be assessed if the return is
after three hours. All laptops
are due back two (2) hours
before the library closes. Laptops will not be checked out three
hours before the library closes.
Limitations on Use
Laptops may be used in Chesnutt Library
only, they are not allowed to leave the building. Laptops should never be left unattended
anywhere in the Library, or
left unattended upon return to the Circulation Desk. Food and/or drink are not
allowed in the Library and should not be in the immediate vicinity
of a laptop. Users may save their documents to their University
account or e-mail their information to their e-mail account. Any
software, files, plug-ins, etc. saved to the laptop will be removed
automatically upon restart.
No borrower shall
have any expectation of privacy with regard to any information on or
in any laptop, and FSU reserves unto itself and its agents the right
to review any and all information in or on the laptop for any
reason, at any time, without notice to the borrower.
FSU reserves the
right to terminate the loan of any laptop at any time, without
notice to the borrower, if a FSU employee reasonably believes that
the laptop has been abandoned by the borrower, used in violation of
FSU policy, or used in a manner that is likely to damage the machine
beyond reasonable wear and tear.
Overdue, Replacement, and Processing Fees
Patrons will be charged a fee of $10.00
for each hour or any portion thereof that a laptop or accessory is
overdue with a maximum fee assessment of $150.00. Grace periods
are not allowed with the checkout of laptops. The replacement cost of a
lost, damaged, or stolen laptop computer will be the cost of the
item's replacement plus a $25 processing fee. Whom ever borrows a
