The University Archives is a service unit designed to organize, maintain and develop a collection of official records and materials of significant historical value related to Fayetteville State University. The unit is responsible for selecting, scheduling, preserving, and making available archival materials for research use.  Archival material is considered primary research material.

Appropriate records for the archives include, but are not limited to:

  • Minutes, records and correspondence of the governing board of the University.
  • Records of the offices of the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, Administrators and Office Heads, including correspondence, subject files and reports.
  • Minutes, memoranda and reports of all major academic and administrative groups, including the faculty senate.
  • Annual reports and other special reports from campus offices/ units.
  • All publications, newsletters or booklets distributed in the name of the University including: catalogs, special bulletins, yearbooks, student newspapers, university directories and faculty/staff rosters, faculty and university newsletters, alumni magazines, etc.
  • Records of student organizations.

Who May Use the Archives Collection?  The Archives Collection is open to faculty, administrators, students, staff and community patrons.   There are certain policies and procedures that govern its use (please see Use Guidelines for Archives & Special Collections and Conditions of Use Agreement).

Do Materials Circulate?  Materials are RESTRICTED and must be used within the department.  Some photocopying may be allowed based upon the Library Staff's discretion.  Materials are  not available for regular checkout. 

Why would I use the Archives Collection?  They would be especially useful to those who want to do in-depth research on the history of Fayetteville State University.
