About University Archives

University Archives holds the official records and other historically significant materials that relate to Fayetteville State University. The ultimate disposition of the university's records is based on a state approved Records Retention and Disposition Schedule which defines the length of time records are to be kept, their disposition and, if deemed permanent, their transfer to the archives. The department assesses University records, reviews them to assess their arrangement, and determines the level of processing that will be required for preservation. These activities help ensure the optimal research value and usability of the records.

Listed below are some of the types of records that are transferred to the archives:

  • Minutes, records and correspondence of the governing board of the University.
  • Records of the offices of the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellors, Deans, Administrators and Office Heads such as correspondence, subject files and reports.
  • Minutes, memoranda and reports of all academic and administrative groups including the faculty and staff senates.
  • Annual reports and other special reports created within the university.
  • All publications, newsletters or booklets distributed in the University's name including: catalogs, special bulletins, yearbooks, student newspapers, university directories, faculty and staff rosters, faculty and university newsletters, alumni magazines, etc.
  • Records of student organizations.
