Students

Every Fayetteville State University (FSU) student borrower at Chesnutt Library, students attending the Fort Bragg campus, and students attending the Cross Creek Early College High School must have a current picture identification card, which is called the University ID Card, FSU Bronco Express Card or the One Card. This serves as your library card to check out materials, and can also be used as a copy card for the photocopiers in the Library's lobby area. According to University Policy, the University ID Card, which serves as a student's identification card, is to be carried with a student at all times, while on campus, and is to be produced at the request of a staff person. Laptops are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk for use strictly within the Library, in three hour time increments.  Two forms of ID are required.  One of them must be the FSU Bronco ID Card. See detailed "Laptop Guidelines."

Students, faculty and staff can obtain an University ID Card from the One Card Office located in the Jones Student Center.

Students may also use their University ID Card or Driver's License, with proof of current enrollment, to check out materials from the constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina System. This requires that a student create a Library PIN number by clicking on the link to "My Library Record" on the Library's Home Page to verify they are currently enrolled and have a library record in good standing.

Faculty/Staff

Faculty and staff should secure a University ID Card as a picture identification card, which will be used as their library card.

Loan Procedures

Once a user has located the material desired, it should be taken to the Circulation Desk. Upon presentation of a valid FSU University ID Card, Friends of the Library Card, Community Borrower's Card, UNC System ID Card, or valid Driver's License with proof of enrollment at UNC System School, the borrower will have the material checked-out through the automated circulation system.  There is also a self-checkout system available.

Holds

As a member of the UNC Coastal Library Consortium, FSU students, faculty and staff, may place holds on UNC-Pembroke or UNC-Wilmington circulating materials. These materials usually take from five to seven days to arrive at FSU. They can then be checked out at the Circulation Desk with the FSU University ID Card. Items will be held at the Circulation Desk for five  days. If not picked up by then, they will be returned to the institution (UNC-P, UNC-W) that lent them. Holds placed on FSU materials by our institution's users will be pulled and held for five days at the Circulation Desk. If they are not picked up, they will be returned to the FSU collection.

An overdue notice for materials not returned within one week after the due date will be sent to the borrower. If by the end of the third week the materials have not been returned, the books are considered lost. At this time, the borrower's name and the amount of replacement cost is sent to the University Office of Business and Finance for charging to the student's account. A "flag" will be placed on the student's account, and will not be removed, until the student pays for the lost material. This may affect your ability to register for classes or obtain copies of your transcript.

A bill for the replacement cost of the material will be sent to the University Office of Business and Finance for collection.

Please Note: Once a bill for a lost book or other library material has been filed and paid with the Office of Business and Finance or the Library and the material is later found, there will be no refund of the monies paid.  If the bill has been filed and not yet paid, and the items are found, they can be returned to the library and upon discussion with the Head of Circulation or the Head of Public Services, the bill could be modified to reflect just the costs of the non-refundable processing fees. A fifteen dollar non-refundable processing fee will be charged for each item or book that is twenty-five days late after the due date.
