Databases and IndexesGreat News for the School of Education! The Chesnutt Library is now providing access to the current years of ERIC E*Subscribe (1996–present). E*Subscribe contains the full-text for approximately 80% of all ERIC documents. ERIC documents cover all areas of education, including adult, urban, rural, vocational, elementary, early childhood, handicapped, gifted, and higher education. You can recognize ERIC documents by their six-digit ED identification number. ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center), under the U.S. Department of Education, is the primary database for indexing journals and ephemeral documents in education. Until now, the only way you could obtain ERIC ED documents was on microfiche housed in the library, or by ordering the documents from the ERIC Document Reproduction Service (EDRS). Now users may obtain full-text documents covering 1996 to the present as PDF files on their desktops. The Chesnutt Library will continue receiving the microfiche for all the ERIC documents through 2003, but will only subscribe to the microfiche for the 20% of the ERIC documents not available through E*subscribe starting in 2004. To access the full-text documents, continue using ERIC through EBSCOhost as listed in the library's Database Finder. Full-text Electronic Education Journals. Another Resource for the Music Program. Music Index, a subject-author guide to music periodical literature, is now available through the Chesnutt Library. Published since 1949, The Music Index: A Subject-Author Guide to Music Periodical Literature is compiled from over 670 international music periodicals offering the researcher access to a wealth of historiographic, ethnographic, and musicological data. A broad range of subjects is covered, including past and present personalities, the history of music, forms and types of music, musical instruments from the earliest times to modern electronic instruments, plus computer produced music. In addition, book reviews, reviews of music recordings, tapes, and performances are indexed. First performances and obituaries are noted. A complete Subject Heading List with cross references, published annually with the quarterly issues and incorporated in the cumulations, facilitates the use of The Music Index, and aids those concerned with the filing of music periodicals. In January, the library acquired RILM Abstracts of Music Literature, which provides abstracts of music literature in over 100 different languages; entries include original-language titles, title translations in English, full bibliographic information, and abstracts in English, as well as author, journal, and in-depth subject indexes. This database was described more fully in the January issue of Collection Development News. New Databases on Order. Other databases that will soon be available in the Chesnutt Library include: MathSciNet (Mathematical Reviews); PROLA (Physical Review Online); World Bank Development Finance; World Bank World Development Indicators; Value Line Investment Survey; Value Line Research Center; and Social Work Abstracts Plus.
