Biographical Note

Dr. Rudolph Jones was the sixth (6) President of FSU. He was a native of Winton, North Carolina. Dr. Jones completed his undergraduate education at Shaw University where he was graduated with honors. He earned both the Masters and the Ph. D. Degrees from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where he was admitted to Pi Gamma Mu, the National Social Science Honor Society. He served as a high school Teacher, a high school Principal, a college Dean and a college President. Dr. Jones had many other work experiences with the State and the Federal Government. He served in World War II in the United States Navy in the South Pacific. He was a member of many educational, religious, and fraternal organizations. Dr. Jones served as an officer on the executive committee in many of these organizations. Dr. Rudolph Jones was a member of the Board of Directors, Fayetteville Area Chamber of Commerce. He was Vice Chairman of the Fayetteville - Fort Bragg Army Advisory Committee, and he was a Ruling Elder in the College Heights Presbyterian Church. He was married to Mammie W. Jones and had a son named Rudolph Bernard Jones. Dr. Rudolph Jones came to Fayetteville State College in 1952. He served as Dean of the College until the retirement of Dr. James W. Seabrook in 1956. He was elevated to the presidency by the Trustees at that time. Dr. Rudolph Jones was also the Past President of the North Carolina Teachers Association- NCTA.   He was Vice President of the Association of Eastern North Carolina Colleges, and was Vice Chairman of the United Forces for Education in North Carolina.
