Article 1:
The name of the organization shall be: Friends of
Charles W. Chesnutt Library of
Fayetteville State University.
Article II:
The purpose of this organization is to assist Chesnutt
Library in its continuous efforts to
enhance its resources and services, and to unite the
surrounding community for the
promotion of cultural activities.
Article III:
Membership shall be open to any individual, business
firm, or group interested in the
activities of the Friends organization. Active
members will pay an annual fee as listed
below:

Renewal date for annual dues will be one year from the
date the Member joined. Donations accepted. Members
will be issued a library card and will have
circulation privileges offered by Chesnutt Library.
Article IV:
The officers of the organization shall be a President,
Vice-President, Recording Secretary,
Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, and six members at
large. These officers shall
constitute the Board of Directors. The Library
Director shall be an ex-officio voting member
of the Board of Directors.

Nominations of officers shall be made by a committee
appointed by the President, with
Board of Directors approval. Nominations may
also be made by members from the floor.
Officers shall be elected to serve for one year or
until their successors are elected, and
their term of office shall begin at the close of the
annual meeting at which they are elected.
Article V:
The society will meet quarterly . Meetings of
the Board of Directors will be called as
needed by the President and shall be called upon the
written request of three members of
the Board.
Special meetings of the organization may be called by
the President, and shall be called
upon the written request of ten members of the
organization. The purpose of the meeting
will be stated when the meeting is called, and a
minimum of three days notice shall be
given.
The Board of Directors shall have general supervision
of the affairs of the organization
between its business meetings, fix the hour and place
of meetings, make recommendations
to the organization, and shall perform other duties as
specified in the constitution.
Article VI:
The President shall appoint members to serve on the
Recruitment, Publicity and Programs
Committees. Such other committees, standing or
special, shall be appointed by the
President as the organization or Board of Directors
shall from time to time deem necessary.
The President shall be ex officio a member of all
committees except the Nominating
Committee.
Article VII:
The rules contained in the current edition of Robert's
Rules of Order Newly Revised shall
govern the organization.
Article VIII:
The Constitution may be amended at the annual meeting
by a two-thirds vote of members
present, provided that members are notified of the
proposed amendment prior to the annual
meeting.
