About the Reference Department
The primary purpose of the Reference Department is to meet the
academic and research needs of the students, faculty and staff at
Fayetteville State University. The Reference Department Staff
assists patrons in finding information, and should be the starting
point for their research and information needs. The
Staff provides both individual assistance and classroom instruction
to assist students, faculty and staff in developing research
strategies, identifying reference and other relevant sources,
locating library materials using the online catalog, and searching
electronic databases.
Reference
Collection consists of print and electronic sources that
represent general and specialized encyclopedias and
dictionaries, almanacs, handbooks, bibliographies, directories,
indexes, statistical sources, manuals, maps and atlases, and
biographical materials.
Computers are available in the Reference Department for
scholarly and research activities such as database and Internet
searching, accessing Blackboard for class assignments, and preparing
papers and presentations using word processing and presentation
software.
See
Computer
and Internet Use Policy.
Please Note:
However much we would like to, the Library does not have the staff
to provide support for the individual computer applications that are
available. We encourage the use of the help screens within
each computer software application and often have library books
available on many of the software applications. More in-depth
help can be sought from the computer technicians available in the
computer labs on campus. For University network applications
like Blackboard, your E-Mail account, and Login and Password
Information, the University's
Information Technology Department (ITTS) can be consulted.
